This orchid is best known as the "Coconut Orchid". The fragrance is coconut and this is a spring/early summer bloomer. The leaves are reed-like, long and slender. The flowers grow from short stems at the base of the leaves, so even in bloom, this plant won't take up a lot of space. This orchid is generally forgiving of lots of growing variances, and can be grown well in cool to warm and bright to somewhat shady conditions. They like to have the media remain moist to do best and I grow my plants in long-fibered sphagnum moss. These plants grow pretty fast and can become specimen-size within a couple of years. This plant is growing in a 4"-5" pot and has lots of new leads. The leaves are 16-24" long, and 24" is about their maximum length. Needless to say, this will be a blooming-size plant.
